The Power of Protein!
Upping your protein intake could help curb your caloric intake. People who followed a 10% protein diet ate 260 more calories a day (you’ll gain an extra pound of fat every 13 days) than those whose diets were 15% protein.
Why You Shouldn’t Overstimulate the Adrenal Glands?
Overstimulation of the adrenal glands from consuming too much sugar, coffee, tea, soda, and other stimulants combined with a stressful lifestyle may lead to adrenal fatigue. It often takes extended nutritional and herbal therapy to repair the damage. If you find yourself unable to function without stimulants, consider reviewing your diet and lifestyle and correcting the situation before the body forces you to through breakdown and illness.
Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Buy Factory Farm Beef
Cattle are ruminants, with stomachs designed to digest grass. When fed massive amounts of grains (grain-fed beef) they grow faster and bigger, but not healthier. Their cardiovascular systems suffer just as ours do, and their healthy fat levels drop. Factory farmed beef also contains antibiotics and growth hormones. To maximize health, consider organically grown, grass fed beef, or reduce beef consumption altogether.
Health Tip #48
The brain needs to be challenged to keep neurological pathways open. Learn a new language, read or even simply practice awareness of your surroundings: smells, sounds, visual input. Doing so will keep your mind sharp and help against disease. The old adage “use it or you’ll lose it” has validity when it comes to your mind.

Health Tip #36
Sugar consumption, including high fructose corn syrup, can weaken the immune system by up to 50% (depending on the size of the dose) for up to 4 hours. Consider limiting sugar consumption at the beginning of any illness to minimize damage to the immune system when under attack.
Fun Fact #55
Your middle fingernail grows the fastest.
Keep Moving!!
It is common for people whose profession keeps them moving (walking, climbing stairs, or moving throughout the day) to have better cardiovascular health than those who work out strenuously once a day, but remain sedentary the rest of the time. Try to incorporate movement throughout your day to increase cardiovascular health. Be creative with wall pushups, take the stairs, intentionally park far away, and raise your arms over you head often to increase movements and health.

Get Sick?
Why is it that some people never get sick even though everyone around is? One theory explaining this phenomenon is that a strong immune system is the key to ultimate wellness. Since 70% of immune system function occurs in a balanced gut, consider adding fermented foods with enzymes and probiotics to increase immune system function.
Health Tip #64
52% of kids’ cereals with more sugar per cup than three chocolate chip cookies. (Adults consume 58% of kids’ cereals.)
Balance Your Acidic Levels
Since both bad bacteria and cancer thrive in an acid environment, test your own acid/alkaline balance in saliva and urine with over the counter p.H. strips. Optimal ranges are between 6.5 and 7.5 taken first thing in the morning before breakfast. If measurements are out of range, consider decreasing starchy carbs, sugar, meats and dairy and increasing whole, organic fruits and veggies. Also, increasing oxygenation through moderate daily exercise supports a more alkaline system.

Listen to Your Body
Symptoms are your body’s way of telling you there is a problem. The focus of Holistic Medicine is to determine and heal the cause of the illness, not just band-aid the symptoms. Whenever you begin a treatment, ask yourself if you are treating and eliminating the actual cause of the illness, or just the symptoms. Until the root cause of an illness is found and corrected, disease tends to transform into more complicated illnesses with increasing symptoms.
Fun Fact #57
In 1900, a person could expect to live to be 47. Today, the average life expectancy for men and women in developed countries is longer than 70 years.
Stimulate Your Brain
It’s one thing to live a long life, but if you want to live a long and vibrant life, you’re going to need a vibrant and sharp mind. The brain, like the rest of the body, needs exercise to avoid becoming sluggish and even disease-ridden. A study of nuns found that the more educated women had fewer instances of Alzheimer’s disease. And even autopsy analysis found that while a particular brain may have exhibited signs of the disease, the effects weren’t obvious in the women who had challenged their brains and had other interests outside their work.
The brain needs to be challenged to keep neurological pathways open. Learn a new language, read or even simply practice awareness of your surroundings: smells, sounds, visual input. The old adage “use it or you’ll lose it” has validity when it comes to your mind.
