STRESS OF LYING
Studies find that lying (even little white lies) increases internal stress levels and negatively affects overall health. Contrary to popular belief, many psychologists claim “protecting the feelings” of others may be more damaging to relationships than being totally honest. One study concluded that increasing honesty may be as healthful as adding more vegetables or exercising. To maximize health, be mindful (aware) of your true level of honesty in your relationships, and strive to take responsibility for your actions (minimize excuses and cover-ups).
CANCER AND COFFEE
A flurry of recent studies suggest that 1-2 cups of organic coffee daily may be beneficial in cancer prevention, antioxidant content, and dementia prevention. Be careful if you already have adrenal fatigue, as coffee tends to overstimulate weakened adrenals. In moderation, organic coffee can be part of a healthy diet.
THE COLD ON FAT
A NASA scientist discovered that metabolism can be increased significantly (in some cases enough to double weight loss) with exposure to cold water. Metabolism is forced to speed up to maintain body temperature when exposed to cold. For those of us that cringe at the thought, experts in Cold Water Therapy suggest it is best to start slowly to avoid shocking the system. Begin with a regular shower, then at the end transition to cold water. If too unbearable, start with hands, feet and face and work up, or try drinking cold water. Build “cold” stamina slowly. Ice packs on the upper chest or back stimulate brown fat cells to increase metabolism. Other positive side effects of Cold Water Therapy include increased immune system function, improved cardiovascular function, and inflammation/pain relief. If you are brave enough, take the plunge to maximize health!
