IS IT BREAKFAST OR DESSERT?
A study by the Environmental Working Group found that two out of three cereals are made up of at least 26% sugar. Honey smacks – 56%, Froot Loops – 41%, Frosted Flakes – 37%, Honey Nut Cheerios – 32%, and Frosted Mini-Wheats (maple & brown sugar) – 25%
SOME JUICY NEWS
In a 16-week study at Massachusetts General Hospital, people who drank 3 cups of orange juice with extra calcium and vitamin D lost more fat than those who drank unfortified orange juice.
DON’T STAY IN THE GENE POOL
A multinational study revealed that being active lowers the genetic risk of obesity. Those who have the FTO gene (which is associated with obesity) who exercise are 30 percent less likely to be obese than those who don’t. The reason, scientist think that a healthy lifestyle could influence the FTO gene.

Humans produce about 10,000 gallons of saliva in a lifetime. Saliva is required for taste—until food is dissolved by saliva, we cannot taste it.
THE POWER OF MAGNESIUM
Magnesium, found naturally in avocados, nuts, and whole grains is necessary for muscle relaxation, bone health, and also for brain health. Proper magnesium levels in the hippocampus (part of the brain which manages long and short term memory) helps protect against aluminum absorption reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia. To maximize health, increase magnesium-containing foods, or consider supplementing.
Grossness aside, flush studies have shown that bacteria is spread up to 10 inches when a toilet is flushed, and dangerous bacteria like C.diff (Clostridium difficile) may survive in water droplets up to 90 minutes on the seat and surrounding area. Consider closing the lid on the toilet while flushing and avoid sitting on the toilet while flushing to minimize exposure to dangerous bacteria.
QUALITY FOODS AND YOU
The body builds all cells and systems (blood, lymph, nerve, brain, skin etc.) based on the raw materials it has available, making wise substitutions when necessary. It can recycle amino acids from existing protein chains, and is miraculous in its ability to manage resources. The quality of the products you put in through food choices will determine how effectively your body is able to do its job keeping you strong and healthy. Consider improving your diet to include more healthy foods your body can use to keep you healthy and sexy.
LAUGH IT UP FOR BETTER HEALTH
Studies show that smiling (and laughing) has tremendous health benefits. There are anecdotal stories of people healing cancer after days of laughing, and research that details how serotonin and endorphins (feel good brain chemicals) are released with laughter. Other studies correlate longevity with smiling, finding that the biggest smilers tended to live the longest, by up to 7 years (and they enjoyed those years more too!) Consider increasing your output of smiles and laughs to improve your health, and probably the world’s health as well!
Cases of acetaminophen overdose are on the rise due to over the counter use, and because so many cold formulas contain it, resulting in liver damage, kidney damage, and bleeding (stomach and intestinal). Studies find a safer alternative in peppermint oil (100% oil, not capsules). A few drops applied to the forehead can provide comparable headache relief to 1000 mg. of acetaminophen within 15 minutes, without the side effects. Consider adding pure peppermint oil to your medicine cabinet for occasional external headache relief.
