Which is why eating feels so good – which scientists have dubbed “hedonic hunger” – leading to overeating.

You’ve all heard of BPA, but a new concern has surfaced: BADGE (bisphenol A diglycidyl ether) a chemical which could contribute to weight gain. Researchers found that stem cells exposed to low amounts of BADGE turned into fat cells. BADGE can be found in aluminum can, many plastic bottles, and even lined cardboard boxes.

Instead, seal pieces in a plastic bag, and carefully wipe all surfaces with a damp cloth (gloves needed). Intact and broken bulbs must be disposed in hazardous waste centers due to the mercury content.
Commercial air fresheners contain many toxic chemicals and known carcinogens, which studies have shown are particularly dangerous for small children and pregnant women. Consider opening windows for natural air freshening, or purchase natural, chemical free air fresheners to minimize exposure.

Antibiotic resistant bacteria are becoming problematic due to the overuse of antibiotics in livestock, as well as in humans. Avoid antibacterial soaps, as they contribute to antibiotic resistance, and they are no more effective than regular soap. Especially avoid soaps containing Triclosan, as its safety is under investigation.
Maintaining a strong immune system, washing hands frequently, and avoiding touching the face (mucus membranes around the eyes, nose and mouth) are the most powerful methods to avoid communicable diseases.
